The biker jacket is the one everybody pictures when you say leather jacket. Asymmetric zip running off to one side, wide lapels that fold back, a belt across the waist and usually a zip on each cuff. It has looked more or less the same since the 1920s because there has never been a good reason to change it.

Biker jacket or motorcycle jacket?

Same jacket, two names. People searching for mens leather motorcycle jackets and people searching for a leather biker jacket mens style are looking at the same thing. The word motorcycle tends to get used for the longer, heavier versions and biker for the cropped ones, but nobody applies that consistently and neither do we.

These are fashion jackets, not riding kit

Worth saying plainly. Our jackets are real leather and they are well made, but they have no armour, no impact padding and no CE rating. They are not built to be crashed in. If you ride, buy protective kit from a motorcycle specialist and keep one of these for when you are off the bike.

What makes a biker jacket a biker jacket

Four things. The asymmetric front zip, which was designed so it did not dig into your chest when you leaned forward. The wide notched lapels, which fold flat and button down. The belt at the hem, which stops the jacket riding up. And the zipped cuffs, so the sleeves close tight at the wrist. Take any of those away and you have moved towards a cafe racer instead.

Black, brown and red

A black leather motorcycle jacket is the default and around two thirds of what we sell. Brown has caught up fast over the last two seasons and looks less severe. Red and burgundy is a smaller corner but a real one, and a mens red leather motorcycle jacket in a deep oxblood is easier to wear than people expect.

Weights and finishes

Cowhide is the heavy one. It holds the shape of the jacket, feels substantial and takes a year to break in properly. Lambskin is lighter and softer from day one but will not hold a structured shoulder the same way. Distressed and washed finishes arrive already looking worn. Pick cowhide if you want a jacket that feels like armour, lambskin if you want one that feels like a shirt.

How a leather biker jacket should fit

Close. A biker jacket that fits like a coat looks wrong, and that is the most common mistake. The shoulder seam sits on the corner of your shoulder. The lapels lie flat against your chest when the jacket is zipped. You should be able to get a jumper underneath and no more than that.

Measure round the fullest part of your chest over a shirt and check the table on the product page rather than assuming your high street size. If you are between two sizes and you want room to layer, go up.

Looking after it

Leather conditioner twice a year, a damp cloth when it needs it, and a wide hanger. Never a wire one, because wire puts a permanent dent in the shoulder. Keep it away from radiators and let it dry naturally if it gets caught in rain.

Made to order, and how long it takes

Motorbike, motorcycle or classic biker

A motorbike leather jacket mens buyers search for is the same as a motorcycle one. Motorbike is the British word and motorcycle the American one, and both land here. Men’s motorbike jackets from us are fashion jackets rather than riding kit.

Classic leather motorcycle jackets means the plain traditional cut with no panels or colour blocking, which is most of what is on this page.

Every jacket is cut and stitched in your size after you order. The delivery date on the product page is a real date, UK delivery is free and you have 14 days to return it. If the biker shape is more than you want, look at the cafe racer, the bomber or the high collar pages. The women’s biker jackets are cut separately.
